Terms of Use
Effective October 23, 2026
TransitOracle (transitoracle.com and the TransitOracle apps for iPhone and Apple Watch) is run by BFT LLC ("we", "us"). These terms apply to anyone who uses it. By using it you agree to them; if you don't agree, please don't use it.
What TransitOracle is
TransitOracle shows arrival predictions for the MBTA's buses, subway, commuter rail and ferries: MBTA's own predictions, and where they have proved more accurate on past days, our corrections of them, each labelled as whose it is. It also plans trips, maps vehicles and publishes how accurate the predictions have been.
Predictions are estimates. Vehicles run early, late or not at all, and both MBTA's predictions and ours can be wrong. Leave yourself a margin for anything that matters, and check MBTA's own information (mbta.com, station signs and announcements) for service changes, accessibility and safety. Never rely on TransitOracle in an emergency.
TransitOracle is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by the MBTA or the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The transit data
Transit data is provided by MassDOT under its Developers License Agreement. MassDOT provides it "as is", without warranty, and isn't responsible for TransitOracle. If you republish MBTA data you get from us, its license applies to you too.
Using the site, the apps and the API
- You're welcome to use TransitOracle for your own travel, to share its pages, and to quote its predictions and track record with credit to TransitOracle and a link back.
- The JSON the site reads (
/api/v1/and/data/, described in llms.txt) is open to people, apps and AI assistants for personal, research and non-commercial use. Keep to a request every few seconds, cache what you can, and say which times are MBTA's and which are ours. Requests beyond that may be slowed or blocked. Commercial use or bulk redistribution needs our written permission. - Please don't overload or disrupt the service, get around its limits, try to break its security, pass our predictions off as MBTA's (or MBTA's as ours), or use it to break any law.
- The apps are licensed to you under Apple's standard licence for App Store apps as well as these terms.
Availability and changes
We work to keep TransitOracle accurate and running, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". MBTA's feeds can be late, wrong or missing, and parts of the service can be unavailable. We may change, add or remove features at any time.
Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for missed trips, connections or appointments. TransitOracle is free, and our total liability for any claim about it is limited to $20. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version; for significant changes we'll give notice on the site before they apply. Using TransitOracle after they take effect means you accept them.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which BFT LLC is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live gives you the right to other protections. Questions: support@bft.llc.
